Getting Replacement Parts
How do you get replacement parts for your recliner?
Start With The Dealer
To get parts for you recliner, go directly to the furniture manufacturer, or one of their dealers (retailers).
Aside from just ordering parts, dealers should be able to answer any warranty questions that you have and perhaps assist with replacement part installation as well.
A word of caution here: Furniture store salespeople are paid by commission on their sales. So, they may or may not be helpful with your repair problem.
The salesperson who sold you your recliner should be helpful (they want more of your business). But as a general rule, sales agents aren't compensated for helping with your repair issue. So it's often best to go through a manager or service manager, as they are directly involved with customer service.
Contact the Manufacturer
If you can't get your parts from your dealer, you can try contacting the manufacturer directly. (Be aware that some manufacturers do not sell parts directly to consumers.)
You can try a local repair tech to see if they can help you with parts and installation. But they typically only stock some parts for the brands they service. They also have to go through manufacturers and dealers to get parts.
Before You Place Your Parts Order
As long as the parts you need are still available and the furniture ID#s can still be found on your furniture, you should be good to go.
Here's what you'll need: You'll want to have those furniture ID#s handy when placing your order. It's also a good idea to have a couple of photos that you can email that show the part clearly -- in case you're having trouble describing it to the customer service rep.
How Long Does it Take to Get Parts?
For recliners made in the U.S., 2-4 weeks is typical for parts. Though in some cases it can take longer.
The Overseas Parts Challenge
Ordering furniture parts is not always the simple process it was years ago, particularly if you bought furniture that was produced overseas. While stateside parts may take 2-4 weeks to arrive, overseas parts (depending on availability) can take even longer if the stateside supply is depleted.
Some Overseas Parts Now Available Online
Fortunately, recent efforts have been made to provide some of these overseas parts online. But if those parts are still covered by your warranty, you may still have to go through the dealer to avoid paying full price for them.
Within the last year (2015 to 2016) I've stumbled across some overseas power reclining parts for sale online at amazon.com. At that time I found some lift motors, power supplies and activation buttons at reasonable prices. [They can have quite a selection of sellers, so be sure to price shop to make sure you aren't overpaying!]
Some complete reclining mechanisms units are also listed for sale online. But most of the units I found were on websites hosted by foreign distributors, with no price listings. Keep in mind that if you receive a damaged part or the wrong part from an overseas distributor, the resolution process may be an adventure!
